Community Organizations Active in Disaster

When a disaster occurs, neighbors and community organizations are often eager to help. The Yavapai County COAD is an organization formed to improve awareness of the needs of the community and connect the capabilities of community partners with those needs during all stages of an event. The Yavapai County COAD hopes to provide opportunities for community organizations to get involved to make the community and its members safer and more prepared for threats of disasters of all kinds.

The Yavapai County COAD does not enlist individual volunteers. However, many of our listed Members and Partners regularly rely on the power of volunteerism, If you’d rather become an individual volunteer with an organization that does take volunteers, we are happy to help you get in contact with one.

Do Not Self Deploy

Seeing images of disaster may compel you to head to the impacted area. Do not underestimate the complexity of working in a disaster area. Until a need has been identified and the local community impacted has requested support or your organization has been activated, volunteers should not enter.

Be patient. Recovery lasts a lot longer than the media attention. There will be volunteer needs for many months, often years, after the disaster especially when the community enters the long-term recovery period.
